The Renaissance Cooperative, a joint venture of Neighborhood Recovery Community Development Corporation (NRCDC) and Macgregor Area Community Development Corporation (MACDC), was created in August 1993 to stimulate economic growth, commercial development, and attract investment into the Third Ward community.
The Renaissance Center, located at the corner of Old Spanish Trail and Scott Street, is the first project of this joint venture. The property, 9.6 acres, was purchased in August, 1995 and has 93,000 square feet of retail/office space. The development includes an HEB Grocery store as the primary anchor tenant and several smaller businesses including a medical clinic, dollar store and appliance center.
HBDi in tandem with Chase Bank provided acquisition financing to make the redevelopment project a reality, which has spurred additional developments and revitalization efforts in the area and the creation of over 100 jobs in the Third Ward neighborhood.
